Newcastle fans told to ‘start dreaming’ as ‘superb’ £63m Arnaut Danjuma signing tipped for completion – pundit

Newcastle could complete the “superb” signing of Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Magpies can “start dreaming” about adding players like the 25-year-old after their recent form.

According to Calciomercato (25 February), Newcastle, Everton, and West Ham are all in the race to sign Danjuma ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international previously played under Magpies boss Eddie Howe at Bournemouth.

Liverpool were monitoring Danjuma, who has a £62.7million (€75million) release clause, as recently as January 2022 following his form at Villarreal.

Whelan claimed the winger would be a “great addition” if Newcastle can stay up.

“That’d be a superb signing,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“If they can stay up then they’ll be looking for experienced players who have played at the highest level.

“When the new owners came in, their main aim will have been to stay in the Premier League so they can attract these top-class, Champions League-quality players.

“I think right now the owners will be over the moon with the progress they’ve made towards that goal, and the way the new signings have hit the ground running.

“Right now they can start dreaming and planning about potential moves for the summer knowing that safety could be just three or four wins away.

“Danjuma would be a great addition if he is part of those plans – I can see it happening as he’s played under Howe before.”

Newcastle sit 15th in the Premier League, four points clear of the drop zone.

Danjuma has netted 12 goals in 23 games for Villarreal this term.
