Newcastle fans will love what Alan Shearer said about Sunderland after win vs Crystal Palace

Newcastle fans will be delighted to see that Alan Shearer took a playful swipe at Sunderland after Saturday’s Premier League action.

The Black Cats came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at the Stadium of Light, as Enzo Le Fee cancelled out Yeremi Pino’s opener, before Brian Brobbey turned home the winner in the 71st minute.

Sunderland’s win piled yet more pressure on Palace, who are now on a run of 10 games without a win in all competitions as they continue their horrific run of form under Oliver Glasner.

By contrast, Regis Le Bris’ side are now just three points off the Champions League places, but that wasn’t enough for them to escape Shearer’s jokes on Saturday night.

Alan Shearer skips past Sunderland anaylsis on Match of the Day

Shearer is not a popular figure among Sunderland fans, considering that he spent several years scoring goals for their bitter rivals in the North East.

The former striker has often been subjected to digs from the Mackems’ faithful over the years, and he has received criticism at times for the way that he has covered them on Match of the Day.

The 55-year-old is rarely seen praising the Wearsiders in public, and that has been noted by fans of both sides on several occasions in recent years.

Shearer made light of that situation during Saturday night’s edition of Match of the Day, as he playfully skipped past his analysis of Sunderland’s performance.

“Just to be clear, I had good analysis on Sunderland,” Shearer said during the show.

“And by our editor’s orders, I’ve been overruled, and I have to talk about Glasner.”

The Magpies’ fans are sure to have enjoyed Shearer’s joke, and he was clearly mocking the fact that Sunderland supporters were likely to be up in arms about the fact that he neglected talking about their team.

Newcastle fans to laugh as Sunderland supporters rage at MOTD

Newcastle fans have seen their team improve their form once again in recent weeks, as they have slowly begun to reinvigorate their campaign after a slow start.

Sunderland’s latest victory has also seen them get themselves back on track after a five-game winless run in the Premier League, but their fans have spent most of their time complaining about their coverage on Match of the Day rather than celebrating their win.

Newcastle fans will be in hysterics when they see the reaction that Shearer’s words have received on X, with some Sunderland supporters even labelling the show a “disgrace” for their coverage.

The Geordies have had to put up with their rivals receiving plenty of praise for their exploits since their promotion, so they will be keen to get their own back in situations like this.

Shearer’s cheeky remarks have prompted another stir, and it could certainly be argued that he has gained the exact effect that he desired from his comments.
