Newcastle handed ‘massive’ summer transfer boost by Bruno Guimaraes reveal – pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Bruno Guimaraes’ glowing comments have boosted the “image” of Newcastle and could entice others to join the club.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it is “great to see” the 24-year-old making a “massive impression” at St James’ Park.
January signing Guimaraes scored twice as Newcastle claimed a dramatic last-gasp 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday (17 April).
As quoted by ChronicleLive post-match, the Brazillian branded the moment “really special” – and lifted the lid on his long-term plans, claiming “I just want to be a legend here”.
Newcastle could pay Lyon a potential fee of €50million (£41.5million) for Guimaraes after add-ons.
Whelan hailed the midfield star and insisted he is going about his quest “the right way”.
“It’s always great to see a player coming in from overseas and making such a massive impression,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“It’s great to see him have that desire to make it work at Newcastle, as well.
“He wants to be a legend, and the main man at Newcastle – and he’s certainly going about it the right way.
“He’s adjusting to the Premier League very quickly after a spell on the bench, and he’s really not taken long to show why they paid all that money to bring him in.
“It seems like he’s loving life at the club, and that certainly won’t hurt Newcastle’s image in the transfer market as they start making contacts this summer.”

Guimaraes has netted three goals in 11 Premier League appearances since joining Newcastle in the winter window.
The Magpies sit 14th in the top flight – 12 points clear of relegation danger.
