Newcastle in pole position to agree Gallagher deal after development – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Newcastle United are a bigger draw for Conor Gallagher than Crystal Palace.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that although Gallagher enjoyed a successful loan spell at Palace, an offer from Newcastle would be too big to turn down.
According to The Telegraph (16 January), the Magpies are plotting a move for the 22-year-old this month as Chelsea look to offload a number of fringe stars.
The midfielder has started just two Premier League games for the Blues since the restart.
The England international spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park making 39 appearances for the club.
His current contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2025 but could look for a way out if his lack of minutes continues.
When asked if returning to the Eagles would be a big draw for Gallagher, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it would.
“Playing under Patrick Vieira, he knows what it is all about.
“He had a great loan spell there so there is always that. He is in London as it is, so it is not far for him to travel.
“If an opportunity at the likes of Newcastle who are going for top four, could have Champions League, they area building something under Eddie Howe, came up I think that would be more of a draw.“

Newcastle are currently third in the Premier League table.
The Magpies are six points behind second-placed Manchester City and comfortably within the Champions League places at the halfway point of the season.
