Newcastle in ‘three-club race’ to sign Tyler Morton after transfer mission
Newcastle United have joined at least two other Premier League clubs in the race to sign Lyon midfielder Tyler Morton in the summer transfer window.
Morton left Liverpool to join Lyon last summer, but could already be set for a return to the Premier League thanks to his impressive displays in Ligue 1.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle scouts have been tracking Morton after being alerted to his performances.
Meanwhile, the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham are also believed to be keeping tabs on his progress and could rival Newcastle in their interest.
The 23-year-old is under contract at Lyon until 2030, potentially making any deal difficult to pull off, while Lyon are on course to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle among top clubs tracking Tyler Morton
Liverpool were reluctant to lose Morton at one stage in the summer, but they eventually sanctioned his departure for a fee of £15million.
Premier League clubs are not the only ones interested in the midfielder, with reported interest from Juventus and other European giants too, but scouts are keeping tabs.
“Tyler Morton is attracting a lot of interest it seems,” Brown told Football Insider.
“When a player goes abroad and starts making a name for himself, Premier League clubs are always going to be keeping an eye on his progress.
“Especially a midfielder, because a lot of clubs are in need of a player in that position.
“So Newcastle have been mentioned, I have no doubt they will have scouts watching him closely to see whether he would be a good fit for their side.
“The same goes for the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham, all of those types of teams, because they will want to know all about him.

“He’s gone over to Lyon and he’s playing well, that doesn’t mean he’s ready to play in the Premier League every week, but it does mean he might be.
“So these clubs will be following him, and it’s the same for other players in a similar situation, because I know the French league is covered extensively at most Premier League sides.”
Newcastle’s top summer transfer priority revealed
While midfield reinforcements are being assessed in case of any potential departures, Newcastle remain keen to add firepower to their squad.
Football Insider revealed on 12 February that Newcastle want to sign a prolific goalscorer as a priority after losing Alexander Isak to Liverpool last year.
The arrivals of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have done little to change their fortunes in what has been a largely disappointing season at St James’ Park.

As a result, the Magpies believe they must upgrade on both of their attacking options and could spend big money to bring in a new centre-forward.
The Tynesiders’ goal conversion metrics are among the worst in the Premier League this season, and Woltemade is their highest scoring forward with just seven league goals.
