Newcastle news: ‘Amazed’ pundit issues ‘incredible’ Joe Willock claim pre-Brentford

Joe Willock will continue his good form and score for Newcastle against Brentford this weekend.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “amazing” Magpies star.

Willock netted his first goal of the season as Newcastle claimed a 1-1 draw away at West Ham last Saturday (19 February).

The 22-year-old had failed to find the net since becoming a permanent Newcastle player in the summer of 2021.

This is despite him scoring eight goals in 14 games after joining the Toon on loan from last season.

After bagging his first goal, McAvennie predicts he will follow it up with a second against Brentford on Saturday (26 February).

“I remember speaking about Willock last season, he amazed me and everyone else,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“What a signing he was. I didn’t know too much about him so when I saw him scoring all the goals I thought he was a striker.

“Like everyone has said, you would have expected some goals now he has become a proper Newcastle player.

“So he’s finally got one and I know what it is like to get a goal, the confidence it brings.

“He’s been one who has been incredible since Eddie Howe came in so the goal was deserved.

“Newcastle have Brentford at the weekend and they have been in really bad form.

“You wouldn’t bet against Willock getting himself another goal in a Newcastle win.

I’ve got a feeling that’s what will happen.

“He will have the taste for it now so he might find himself a bit further up the pitch and in the right areas.”
