Newcastle player ratings v Brighton: Key man impresses with 7/10 in defeat

Rob Elliot – 7

After a summer of uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeping department at St James’ Park, Rob Elliot has retained his place between the sticks and Newcastle would have been dead and buried without him.

The first half was a busy one for the Republic of Ireland international, with Brighton threatening from both set pieces and open play, and Elliot had to be on his toes.

The second half started busy, and while there was nothing he could do for Brighton’s opener, he pulled off an outstanding save with his foot to deny Solly March from poking home.

Week after week he is proving himself a key player in this Newcastle side.
