Newcastle player ratings in defeat v Chelsea: Speed machine shines in 7/10 display

Isaac Hayden – 5

Brought on for Ayoze Perez just after the hour mark, he was introduced to shore up the Magpies’ midfield after being so evidently overrun by the quality of Chelsea.

He had little effect going forward as well as struggling to halt the Blues’ attack as would have been hoped.

Jonjo Shelvey – 6

It was a case of too little, too late by the time Shelvey was introduced, with the Magpies 3-1 down to Chelsea and with very little left to play for.

Fans will have been wondering before the match kicked off why he was not starting and there will be more questions asked over Benitez’s decision following the full time whistle.

DeAndre Yedlin – 6

Given five minutes to have an impact, but was left watching Chelsea pass the ball among themselves as they saw out their win.
