What began with a bright start, dominating his box from a Chelsea corner and making a great point blank save, soon became a disappointing display from the former Nottingham Forest man.
He was lucky not to concede a penalty for clattering into the back of Alvaro Morata, before allowing Eden Hazard’s shot to drift over his outstretched hand.
The shot stopped could have perhaps elected to punch the cross of Victor Moses away before Morata got his head to the ball, while his kicking and distribution left a lot to be desired.
Having lost faith in Rob Elliot, hence Darlow’s inclusion, Benitez will no doubt be looking at the goalkeeper’s position as one of weakness in the Newcastle line up.
