Starting as a right wing back in a defensive back five, he will have been hoping to prove why he is the correct choice for Benitez, having replaced DeAndre Yedlin.
However it was not the best start for the Spaniard, looking to struggle with the intensity of the Chelsea attack, while he tried his best to have an impact further up the pitch, although that too was to little effect.
The change of tactics will not have helped how the team got on, especially at the back, but Manquillo would have been hoping to deliver much more than he did.
