Newcastle player ratings v Everton: Under fire star shines with 8/10 display

Goalkeeper and defenders

Karl Darlow – 3: An absolute shocker from the man between the sticks was all that Everton needed to secure the victory. Newcastle could have snatched a point had it not been for his error, and blame lies at his feet (or rather hands) for the result.

DeAndre Yedlin – 8: The American had been under fire from the Newcastle faithful after a series of disappointing displays. He showed what he has to offer against Everton, explosive down the right flank and a constant thorn in their side. Defensively sound.

Jamaal Lascelles – 6: Returning after his injury layoff, he did very little wrong and was not given the opportunity to change the result.

Florian Lejeune – 6: Like Lascelles, carried out his duty and kept Everton quiet for much of the game. Saw a good header across the box missed by Mo Diame which would have levelled the scores.

Javier Manquillo – 7: Like Yedlin on the opposite flank, the Spaniard was an impressive threat down the left wing, and was pretty resolute when forced to defend. Maybe Paul Dummett’s return from injury will see more of a fight at left back than expected.
