Newcastle player ratings v Everton: Under fire star shines with 8/10 display
Forwards
Matt Ritchie – 6: He did all he could to try and grab Newcastle a goal, including one impressive cross in the first half which evaded all the Everton defenders, but unfortunately his own team mates as well. His impact has been lacking and that is directly affecting his team mates.
Christian Atsu – 6: Back into the starting XI after his injury absence, he was driven and direct but lacked the cutting edge necessary to break the Toffees down. Pace is one thing, but it is what you do at the end which counts. Atsu needs to deliver more.
Dwight Gayle – 5: Newcastle could have played with 10 men at times, that is how little Gayle affected this game. That was through no fault of his own mind, as he ran and ran to try and create the spark needed. The Magpies just could not bring him into the game, as he cut a forlorn figure up top.
