Chosen as the foil to Joselu in a traditional little and large partnership, it appeared as though last season’s top scorer was being utilised in a different role than would have been expected.
Dropping deeper behind the Spaniard, he was working hard to pressure the Leicester defence and midfield, but to no real effect.
The Foxes looked comfortable and there needed to be more support and service up front, but the opposition’s tactics seemed to nullify whatever Benitez had planned.
However he demonstrated his natural goal scoring ability with 18 minutes left to play, drilling the ball home from just inside the box after Leicester failed to clear a corner.
