Newcastle player ratings v Manchester United: One man weak link in outstanding team display
Midfielders
Jonjo Shelvey – 9: Pulling strings from the centre of midfield, he was the creative spark running the Magpies throughout. An early, vicious strike look destined for the top corner had it not been for David De Gea, and that seemed to give him to confidence to run the show.
Mohamed Diame – 8: A powerhouse performance from the former fringe figure, he is putting in some of his best ever displays for the club. Unfazed coming up against the likes of Paul Pogba, he hassled and harried throughout.
Matt Ritchie – 8: A quiet outing from the Scottish international was lit up by a brilliant first touch finish to give the Magpies the lead. He was hard working throughout, both in attack and in defence.
Kenedy – 6: The Brazilian winger continues to excite the Newcastle faithful with his pace and power down the flanks, and despite coming up against his toughest opposition so far, he did not show any signs of letting it effect him. However he was guilty of giving up possession as the game wore on.
