A match where very little went Atsu’s way.
He was hard working, resourceful and driven but Southampton just seemed to have the edge over the Ghanaian in terms of physicality.
It was his shot which ricocheted into the path of Isaac Hayden for the opener, while he was unlucky to see an earlier shot zip past the outside of the post.
He is still firmly Rafa Benitez’s number one choice on the left flank and really there was no reason to question that against the Saints, even if it was an unremarkable performance.
