While recent performances have been frustrating for the Spanish striker, he had virtually no chances to feed off as he was given just under 70 minutes by Benitez.
He works as hard as anyone else on the pitch, and it was no surprise to see him defending down the flanks before returning to a central attacking role when the Magpies regained possession.
It does not look like he will be the goal scoring striker the Magpies really need but his work ethic helps bring others into the game, which was evident against the Saints.
