Deary, deary me.
After so many impressive performances from the 30-year-old, it looked like Newcastle’s search for a new goalkeeper had been ended.
However, Rafael Benitez may very well be revisiting his shortlist after Sunday’s outing, which was a shocker for Elliot.
The strong command of his box and confident control over the opposition shown recently dissipated, replaced by a nervy, unconvincing showing between the sticks.
There should be no doubts that his place is under no threat for the visit of Crystal Palace – everyone has an off day – but with the January transfer window around the corner, he will be wanting to rectify the situation quickly.
