it may be surprising to some to see a defender handed an eight out of ten when his side conceded twice, but that was how impressive Lascelles was at the back.
His positioning was excellent, making blocks to deny the Southampton players, while he dominated in the air from open play.
His only issue came when Virgil van Dijk came up for the Saints’ set pieces, but he did enough to keep the Dutch centre back quiet for the majority of the game.
A real confident performance, like chalk and cheese in comparison with Elliot behind him, and it will be interesting to see who he lines up next to against Crystal Palace.
