There is one thing that you can guarantee Matt Ritchie will bring you when he plays; energy.
There was bundles of it out on the pitch at St Mary’s, as the Scottish winger chased every loose ball and lost cause.
He is so crucial to the way Newcastle play and on another day he might have had an assist or two to his name.
Not only that, but he is as important defensively as he is in the attacking third, and the partnership being built down the right flank between Ritchie and DeAndre Yedlin is looking impressive.
Still, he just lacked the final killer ball on Sunday and he will be looking to rectify that when Crystal Palace come to town next weekend.
