Ayoze Perez – 8: The Spanish forward has been in a rich vein of form since the turn of the new year, with three goals in two meaning he has forced his way back into the starting XI. He made an energetic start to the match, with some direct running at the heart of the Swansea defence which helped create some chances. Should have scored with a clear-cut opportunity after 25 minutes, but it was chalk and cheese between him and his attacking counterpart Gayle.
Dwight Gayle – 5: Chosen to lead the line for the Magpies, Gayle passed up a handful of opportunities to give the home side the lead. An early header was directed straight at Lukas Fabianski before another headed opportunity was put wide despite finding himself in acres of space. The partnership formed with Perez does not make up for his wasted opportunities, having had a real shocker in front of goal. Replaced by Joselu after 63 minutes.
