If Benitez were to drop one of his strikers, it would be tough to decide which one to drop based on Saturday’s display, as they were both as ineffectual as the other.
Joselu is quite simply not good enough to act as an out-and-out target man, and if the 4-4-2 formation is employed in the future, the manager must consider Aleksandar Mitrovic instead.
His dedication cannot be questioned but he is not the striker Newcastle need to put the ball in the back of the net, which is what they are lacking desperately.
