Jonjo Shelvey – 5
After being booked for a wild and unnecessary challenge in the opening 20 minutes, Shelvey was walking on eggshells for the rest of the game.
He had to be so careful about his defensive contribution and that massively impacted the Magpies’ control in the midfield.
As for his attacking threat, that was pretty much non-existent, which again harmed Newcastle’s chances of ever getting a result.
Rafa Benitez cannot afford to have passengers in his side and although Shelvey can run the show, he has gone missing too many times this season – he is yet to score or assist in the Premier League this season.
