Newcastle player ratings v West Brom: Attacker will never play for Benitez again in 4/10 display
Midfielders
Jonjo Shelvey – 5: A dire performance on a day which may have just seen his England hopes fade from view. Lacking in any sort of motivation, Newcastle’s maestro was coming up against Jake Livermore, his rival for a Three Lions role, and there was only one winner at St James’ Park. Bitterly disappointing.
Mohamed Diame – 7: One of the only players who actually looked like he might be able to change things for Newcastle. His determination and drive pushed the Magpies forward on a day when many were lacking the expected energy. Their man of the match – not that it is much of an honour.
Matt Ritchie – 6: Full of energy, Ritchie’s end product was severely lacking against the Baggies, and his effort was unable to be transformed into goals. Needs to be a game changer on days like this.
Kenedy – 6: After helping carve open the West Brom defence, the Brazilian, making his final home appearance of the season, wasted a golden opportunity by hitting the wrong side of the post with his shot when one-on-one. One of the few bright sparks for Benitez.
