Newcastle player ratings v West Brom: Benitez regular awful in 4/10 display
Goalkeeper and defenders
Karl Darlow (Goalkeeper) – 6: Back in the side for his first league outing, he commanded his box confidently for the majority of the game. Perhaps could have been more decisive for the West Brom goals.
DeAndre Yedlin (Right-back) – 4: A shocker against Watford and it was not much better against the Baggies. His pace does not make up for a lack of defensive awareness and his attacking efforts were sub-par once again. It has been awful for the American and he needs to sort things out.
Florian Lejeune (Centre-back) – 6: Not the most convincing showing from the French defender and could be back under pressure for when Jamaal Lascelles returns from injury.
Ciaran Clark (Centre-back) – 7: It was goal number two of the season for the Republic of Ireland defender, and he will be unlikely to net as easy a header for the rest of his career. A bit shaky at the back but made up for it with the first goal.
Chancel Mbemba (Left-back)- 7: Back into the starting XI after a lengthy absence, he impressed on his return. He has no doubt given Benitez food for thought after seeing Javi Manquillo torn to shreds against Watford, but will still be waiting for Paul Dummett’s return.
