Newcastle player ratings v West Brom: Benitez regular awful in 4/10 display

Substitutes

Rolando Aarons – 7: The injury-prone winger is coming back from his latest layoff, but did well after replacing Jacob Murphy. He brought more energy and directness and kept the ball well out on the right flank, which prevented West Brom from creating too many more attacks.

Jonjo Shelvey – 7: Axed in place of Hayden and Merino, he can expect to be reinstated against Chelsea. He came on to dictate play and it was his distribution which ensured Newcastle kept the ball better and work the chances needed to come away with a point.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – 6: Was yet again not given long enough to really prove himself by Rafa Benitez, but was undoubtedly keen to show off his determination. Put himself about but was not given any chances to net against the Baggies.
