Newcastle player ratings v West Ham: Duo star with 8/10 displays in victory
COMMENT
Newcastle United saw themselves pick up their first win in 10 games after a 3-2 victory away to West Ham on Saturday.
The Hammers took an early lead, Marko Arnautovic capitalising on surprise starter Henri Saivet’s mistake to bear down on goal from halfway and slot past Rob Elliot in the Magpies’ net.
However the Newcastle midfielder made up for his error just four minutes later, curling home a free kick over the West Ham wall and past Adrian for his first ever goal for the club, which sent the sides into half time on equal ground.
Mohamed Diame then gave the Magpies the lead before Andre Ayew saw his penalty saved by Rob Elliot two minutes later.
Christian Atsu proceeded to make it three with a swift counter attack just before the hour mark, and that was enough to earn the club a first win in 10 games despite Ayew’s late strike to make it a nervy end for the Magpies.
So who shone for the Magpies at the London Stadium and who let the Toon Army down?
Here, Football Insider rates each of the Magpies’ stars out of 10, handing a pair of stars 8/10 after their impressive displays in securing victory.
