Dwight Gayle – 6: With Rafa Benitez reverting to a 4-4-2 formation, Gayle and Joselu would be forced to work hard in order to ensure that the Magpies were solid through the midfield as well as in attack. Gayle worked his socks off with an industrious display up front, running the channels and stretching the defence. Unlucky not to net after flicking a ball onto the post.
Joselu – 6: One of the better displays from the Spaniard in his Newcastle career, as he demonstrated his abilities as a target man up front. he held the ball up when needed and was able to flick balls on for his team mates, while acting as a focal point to guide the Magpies forward. Showed his naivety towards the end by not holding the ball when under pressure.
