Newcastle ‘PR masterstroke’ mooted amid major Alexander Isak exit update

Newcastle United fans have been given a fresh update on the chances of striker Alexander Isak leaving the club following an update from Mark Douglas in The I.

The Sweden international has been in outstanding form for the Magpies this season, scoring 17 goals in 22 Premier League appearances.

That has led to plenty of speculation around the future of Isak, with Arsenal being heavily linked with a move for the Newcastle striker.

However it now appears that a departure from St James’ Park for the 25-year-old is unlikely to happen any time soon.

Alexander Isak transfer chances revealed

As per this latest update, Isak has been in such good form for Eddie Howe’s side that there is now a belief the club’s asking price – speculated to be at least £150million – will be too high for any other side to afford.

It is also noted that the Magpies are no longer under pressure to sell their star striker from a PSR perspective either.

That comes after a period in the transfer window where Newcastle have been quiet on incomings while selling fringe players for profit.

Beyond that, Isak is said to have an excellent relationship with Howe which could help convince him to remain with at St James’ Park as well.

This has been an excellent season for Newcastle as well, where they are challenging for a place in the Champions League, and looking ahead to a Carabao Cup final with Liverpool.

That chance for success is also something that it is believed could help secure a new contract for Isak at the club, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2028.

Elsewhere, fellow centre-forward Callum Wilson is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer and could be moved on.

That would vacate the number nine shirt at the club, which could then be passed on to Isak from next season.

Douglas has tipped such a switch as a potential “PR masterstroke” for the Magpies, given the comparisons between the Swede and the legendary Alan Shearer who used to wear that number for the club.

Newcastle United must do all they can to keep Alexander Isak

Football Insider Verdict

For a number of reasons, retaining the services of Isak at St James’ Park would be a huge boost for the club.

It goes without saying that the striker is already integral to what Newcastle are doing on the pitch at this moment in time.

Beyond that though, keeping him amid that huge interest from elsewhere would be a major statement of intent.

Not only would it give another big lift to the fanbase, keeping a player of his quality would also help convince potential new signings to join, given the prospects for success it would offer them.

As a result it does seem as though securing the future of Isak, even with the length of time remaining on his current contract, has to be a priority for Newcastle.

In the circumstances they may well be confident of doing that, and passing on the iconic number nine shirt to a player earning similar status, could bring a major revenue boost on top of that as well.
