Newcastle set for double boost after ‘incredible’ news this week – pundit
Newcastle United are set for an “exciting” end to the season with Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier nearing a return.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid an “incredible” update.
Wilson, 30, has been sidelined with a calf injury since late December while Trippier, 31, got injured against Aston Villa on 13 February.
As revealed by the club’s social media, the duo both returned to training during the club’s trip to Dubai during the international break.
And this site revealed on (15 March that Wilson is now confident of returning against Norwich City on 23 April.
McAvennie claims Newcastle could secure their best Premier League finish since 2017/18 thanks to this double injury boost.
“Newcastle have done so well to keep winning without those players,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Tripper was so, so good before his injury and we all know how good Wilson is on his day.
“He’s still their top scorer. It’s incredible to see them both working to be back and Newcastle have a decent end to the season.
“I think they just need one or two more wins to really secure their safety.
“Then you are looking at how high they can finish, getting into the top 10 is not out of the question for me.
“It’s an exciting time for them and I’m sure the fans can’t wait to see those guys back.”

Newcastle are currently 14th in the Premier League.
They are five points off 10th-placed Leicester City.
