Newcastle set sights on signing sensation with £23m release clause

Newcastle are interested in bringing Boca Juniors winger Kevin Zenon to the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Newcastle view the 23-year-old as a ‘cheaper alternative’ to what is currently on the market and a deal should be ‘straightforward’.

The versatile forward has scored four goals and provided seven assists for the Argentine giants since moving from Unión de Santa in January.

Capable of playing on either wing as well as a more traditional number ten, Zenon is highly regarded in Argentina and earned a call-up to their Olympic squad in the summer.

It’s understood Eddie Howe’s side will prioritise signing a new winger in January after failing to do so in the last two transfer windows.

Newcastle eye move for Kevin Zenon

Zenon prefers to operate on the left wing, a position where Newcastle are well-stocked with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon.

Still, his low price tag makes him an attractive, low-risk option as new sporting director Paul Mitchell looks to implement the type of transfer strategy that made him so successful at Southampton and Tottenham.

Newcastle have struggled in front of goal so far this season, scoring just eight goals in their first seven Premier League games, making them the division’s joint-sixth lowest scorers.

With the international break over, Newcastle will host Brighton on Saturday (October 19) as they seek to put a frustrating 0-0 draw with Everton behind them.
