Newcastle star delivers ‘high expectations’ for the season despite relegation threat
Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has said that the club still hold high expectations for the rest of the season despite their lowly league position.
The Magpies are currently sitting in 18th, the first of the three spots in the relegation zone, and are just three points off the bottom of the table, occupied by Swansea City at present.
However the table is just as close moving upwards, and were Yedlin and his team mates to pick up three points against West Ham on Saturday, then they could see themselves reach as high as 12th if other fixtures were to go their way.
As a result, Yedlin insists that the club are not going to be happy just settling for Premier League survival, and boldly states that the Magpies are still aiming high despite their recent struggles.
He told the Chronicle: “The fact that we started so well meant people’s expectations were high, which they should be.
“We also had high expectations and we still do. We’re by no means satisfied by the position we are in right now.
“We want to keep working and get as far up the table as we can.”
Newcastle have been on a dreadful run of form in recent games, going on a nine game winless run which has garnered just one solitary point from a possible 27, with their most recent result a 1-0 defeat away to Arsenal.
They will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on West Ham at the London Stadium, with Rafael Benitez’s men looking to complete the double over the Hammers after beating them 3-0 at St James’ Park earlier in the campaign.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are expected to make an official move for a 13-goal hot shot.
