Newcastle to complete ‘brilliant signing’ of Lewis Hall for ‘peanuts’ – pundit

Newcastle United will sign Lewis Hall for “peanuts” following his loan spell from Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie hailed the 19-year-old’s first six months at St James’ Park and claimed his permanent capture will be a “brilliant signing”.

Hall is reportedly in line to stay with the Magpies following his season-long loan spell from the Blues, who negotiated a £28million obligation to buy with Eddie Howe’s side.

However, Howe revealed that he was “not 100 per cent sure” if Hall would be a Newcastle player next season as his loan deal specifies performance-based criteria that must be met to trigger the obligation to buy.

The left-back has made 10 appearances for his new club this season and has amassed just 264 minutes in all competitions.

However, McAvennie was adamant that he would be a Newcastle player next season and believed that they could sell him off for a huge fee in the future.

“I think it would be a brilliant signing,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s done well for them. They got a good player from Chelsea and, let’s be honest, Hall’s done alright.

“£28million is absolute peanuts these days – I can’t believe I’m saying that!

“But it’s a good price and he’s a good age. If he carries on, Newcastle will make a lot of money on him, if that’s what they want.

“They want to get players for that kind of price and produce them into top players.

“I think this guy has the potential to do that.”
