Newcastle to ‘definitely consider’ offer after Oliver Glasner demand

Crystal Palace are plotting a move to sign Newcastle United star Joe Willock as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of the January transfer window.

Oliver Glasner is determined to bolster his squad amid ongoing issues with the depth behind his starting XI, as concerns about Palace‘s fixture congestion continue to grow.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the midfielder’s versatility and Premier League experience have placed him firmly on the Eagles’ list, although they are not expected to be alone in their interest.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 28 November that Newcastle are open to offers for Willock and could be prepared to let him move on.

The 26-year-old started in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Marseille in midweek, but has made five of his eight appearances so far this season coming from the bench.

Crystal Palace plot move to sign Joe Willock

Willock was a target for Crystal Palace during the summer window, but the Eagles never made a formal move and Newcastle were unsure about letting him go.

Given his lack of regular playing time under Eddie Howe this season, there is a growing expectation that he could become available, putting the Eagles on alert.

While Palace are not the only interested club, with plenty of admirers tracking Willock, they are believed to be leading contenders for his signature.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think if they got a decent offer for Joe Willock, it’s something they would definitely consider.

“He’s probably fifth or sixth choice under Eddie Howe at the moment. To be fair to Willock, he’s had his injury issues which have stopped him getting a regular run in the side.

“Crystal Palace could be good option for him. Obviously, Oliver Glasner would like to strengthen his squad when the January transfer window opens.

“Joe Willock is a versatile player. He can play central midfield or he can play out wide and he’s Premier League proven as well. So it could be a good option for them.

“I’m sure there will be a few clubs looking at Willock’s situation in thee January window.”

Oliver Glasner’s January transfer plans revealed

Football Insider revealed in August that Glasner was left frustrated at Crystal Palace as a result of their slow start to the summer transfer window.

However, they are now keen to make up for their difficult summer by backing the manager with new players to bolster his squad in the mid-season window.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 September that Crystal Palace must match Glasner’s ambitions if they want him to agree a new contract.

Glasner has previously spoken out confessing he would like to add more players to his squad in January to enable further rotation and allow him to rest key players.

Following Palace’s 2-1 defeat to Strasbourg in the Conference League, the boss doubled down on his calls for the club to invest with attacking players high on his radar.
