Newcastle transfer news: ‘Hard at work’ chiefs contacting new signings ‘as we speak’ – expert

Newcastle United are safe from Premier League relegation and are preparing for a “huge” summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Magpies recorded another win.

Newcastle moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Southampton on Thursday (10 March).

This was the club’s ninth game without a loss in the league, a run that saw Eddie Howe given February’s Manager of the Month award.

Newcastle are not mathematically safe from the drop but McAvennie insists the club will be playing in the Premier League next season.

As a result, he claims Amanda Staveley and Co. have switched their attention to the summer.

“They are safe, absolutely, what a run it has been,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have gone past not losing and now they are at just winning every game, it’s brilliant to see.

“You didn’t really see it a few months ago. I thought they might stay up but maybe on the final day.

“I didn’t think they would go on some amazing run and blow everyone away.

“It’s brilliant and those fans deserve it. They can start looking to the future now.

“I can tell you now, the owners have. They want a huge transfer window to get Newcastle up that table as quickly as possible.

“That’s what they want, that’s what Eddie Howe wants. They managed to get Trippier when they were hopeless at the bottom.

“Who will they get in the summer now they are a safe Premier League club?

“They’ll be trying to get people in as we speak, they will be hard at work.”
