Newcastle United transfer news: Striker ‘just like Aguero’ tipped to sign this summer – expert

Newcastle United will sign their own Sergio Aguero if they avoid relegation from the Premier League.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ summer plans.

Newcastle have eased relegation fears after going six games unbeaten in the Premier League.

This came after a busy January that saw the club sign Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett.

McAvennie insists Newcastle will invest again if they stay up and claims the club will look to replicate Aguero’s success at Manchester City.

“Newcastle need to look at Man City,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Look at what they did when they got taken over because they want to do the same thing and win every trophy available.

“City signed Aguero and he came in and won them the league. That’s the player Newcastle will be looking for in the summer. They want their own Aguero.

“They will stay up and they will look to spend every penny they have on whoever this player is, this ‘Aguero signing’, if you like.

“Wilson is always injured and Wood isn’t scoring for them. The first thing they need is a quality striker.

“Get him in and the wins and maybe trophies will follow. I think that will definitely happen.”

Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

He scored 260 goals in 390 total appearances for the club and won five Premier League titles.
