Kieran Maguire cites Nick De Marco as £10m Newcastle United deal all but done

Newcastle United powerbroker Amanda Staveley is wise to heed the advice of Nick De Marco and negotiate with Mike Ashley rather than go to trial.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing lawsuit between Staveley and the former Magpies owner.

Ashley is suing Staveley for allegedly breaching the terms of a £10million loan given to her as part of the £305m takeover of Newcastle by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in October 2021.

The retail baron claims that Staveley disparaged his running of the club in contravention of the conditions of the agreement and painted a false picture of the club’s finances under his premiership.

But a source told Football Insider on 31 December that Staveley’s representatives are now confident of reaching a settlement before the case goes to trial.

Citing leading litigation expert and Newcastle collaborator De Marco, Maguire claimed an out-of-court settlement is best for all parties.

As the country’s best lawyer Nick De Marco always says, it’s better to negotiate than litigate,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

Therefore, reaching a settlement with Ashley is beneficial for all parties concerned.

“They may even potentially be able to have a good working relationship together going forwards.

It will certainly save them money, although there will still be legal fees to agree between the two parties.

All in all, you can certainly see the logic at play here. It will be the better option for both parties.
