Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United well placed to bank £8m after new reveal

Newcastle United will feel they can justify asking for £7.5million for a sleeve sponsorship deal.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ new sleeve deal with Noon.com.

Newcastle announced last month (27 June) that they had partnered with the leading Middle East e-commerce brand, which is part-owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

The i reported (30 June) that the value of the deal presents a signficant increase on the 2021-22 sleeve partnership with Kayak, but no specific value has been either revealed by the club or reported in the mainstream media.

Maguire tweeted on the day the deal was announced that the Tynesiders valued their sleeve rights at £7.5m, although he was quick to dilineate between asking price and final agreed price.

That figure would represent one of the most lucrative sleeve deals outside of the so-called ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League.

Maguire claimed that Newcastle will have used their league position in 2021-22 and their high website traffic to negotiate the best possible deal.

“If Chelsea, Man United and City are getting £20m, they will feel they can justify £7.5m,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“That was how much Newcastle were asking for, but they won’t confirm how much they are actually getting.

They ended up finishing 11th in the Premier League last season. They will say they have got a high digital footprint and £7.5m can potentially go through the fair value panel.”

Newcastle generated £18m in commercial income in 2020-21, the last financial year on record.

All Premier League commercial deals are now ratified by the fair market value panel.
