Newcastle United about to become an ‘elite club’ after source’s £300m deal reveal – pundit

Newcastle United will soon be able to consider itself an elite club if they get a £300million commercial deal over the line.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing changes at Newcastle.

On 29 November Football Insider revealed the Magpies are preparing for their next big commercial move with talks underway on a near-£300million deal.

This site broke the news on 28 October that the club could land a 10-year-plus deal associated with Saudi partners that would fit in with Premier League sponsorship rules.

It is understood the agreement, which would replace the Fun88 deal that is set to end a year early, would likely include a front-of-shirt sponsorship tie-in as well as a myriad of other branding rights, including an agreement that covers the Darsley Park training complex.

McManus insists this is exactly the type of deal that can take the club to the next level.

“It’s not just about doing it on the pitch and signing the best players,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“You need to be able to do things well off the pitch too. Look at the likes of Man City and Man United, they both have massive sponsorship deals which allow them to do things other clubs can’t.

“If Newcastle can get a deal in the same vein as that then it will push them closer to becoming an elite club. That’s where they want to be, we all know that.

“So it’s about getting the right deal but I’m sure the owners have the connections to make something happen there.

“The off-field stuff is as important as the on-field stuff these days and Newcastle United seem to be doing both quite well.

“I think this is one to keep an eye on.”
