Newcastle United ‘back with the big boys’ – Wyness wowed by ‘incredible’ news
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Newcastle United have shown they are “back with the big boys” after their “incredible” kit launch.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Magpies chiefs must now do more to boost the club’s commercial revenue.
Newcastle’s new Adidas kit was released last week (7 June), with fans queuing around St James’ Park to get their hands on the strip.
The German sportswear giants have replaced Castore in a deal which will be worth £40million per year until 2030.
That deal reportedly puts Newcastle on par with Tottenham but still some way behind Man United and Man City, who lead the top earners in the Premier League.
Newcastle kit launch was ‘incredible’, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the new Adidas deal will feel like a “resurgence” for Magpies fans.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Certainly this launch will help their commercial revenue a lot.
“I saw the queues at St James’ Park for their temporary megastore, it was incredible.
“It just shows the passion up there and it shows the satisfaction with the kit.
“Adidas and Newcastle are back together again, which is very exciting.
“It feels like a resurgence for the fans, showing that the club are back with the big boys again.

“That side of the business has increased, but they need new areas to really boost the revenue with innovative streams.
“They’ve got harder work to do yet, but there’s a strong platform to go from and I’ve got every faith that the club’s executive team will do it.”
