Newcastle United backed to complete ‘big statement’ Declan Rice signing after Sky reveal – Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Newcastle United to make a “big statement” and sign Declan Rice from West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Rice suits Eddie Howe’s style of play and would be a “great signing” for Newcastle.
Sources told Football Insider last month (23 November) that West Ham expect their captain to join a Champions League club in 2023 regardless of how their season pans out.
As quoted by Sky Sports last week (1 December), the 23-year-old insisted he wants to win the “biggest trophies” and play in the best competitions in his career.
Rice has just over 18 months remaining on his contract at the London Stadium although West Ham have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
Claret & Hugh reported last month (17 November) that Newcastle are the latest club to target the midfield and see him as a potential “cornerstone” to their project.
“I think he suits Newcastle,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think he’d be a great signing for them.
“It would be a big statement from Newcastle. Going and taking West Ham’s best player would show pulling power from Newcastle.”

Rice won his 38th England cap as they beat Senegal 3-0 in the World Cup round of 16 on Sunday (4 December) and booked their place in the quarter-finals.
The London-born ace has started all four games for the Three Lions at the tournament and looks set to retain his place against France on Saturday (10 December).
In other news, Leeds United are plotting a move to re-sign a £100,000-a-week star from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
