Newcastle United backed to complete ‘brilliant’ Christian Pulisic deal after update – pundit

Christian Pulisic is the statement signing Newcastle United have been looking for.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ transfer business.

As per The Telegraph (16 August) Newcastle have asked to be kept informed over Pulisic’s future as he may be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan this summer.

The same day, it was reported by The Athletic that Man United are also interested in a loan deal for the USMNT captain though it is claimed Chelsea will not send their player to a traditional rival.

Kenny insists the 23-year-old’s potential arrival will boost the club on and off the pitch.

“He’s fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I actually think Newcastle are probably a bigger rival to Chelsea than Man United are at the moment but there you go.

“He would be a statement signing. You are looking at a loan with the option of a permanent, which you would think they will take. He would be brilliant.

“It’s a big-name signing and it gets the attention on Newcastle a bit. This guy is the captain of the American side, now every football fan in America knows Newcastle.

“The main benefit is obviously that he improves the team and we know they need some new attackers.

“For me, this is a move that works and I can see it happening in those final days of the window.”

Pulisic scored 29 goals and provided 26 assists for Borussia Dortmund in 127 total outings.

He joined Chelsea in January 2019 but remained at Dortmund for the final months of the 2018-19 campaign.
