Newcastle United backed to complete ‘exciting’ Alexander Isak deal after £40m+ update – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted a deal for Alexander Isak would “excite” the Newcastle fans as the club mull over a £40million-plus bid.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the Magpies to turn attention to more “firepower” after sealing deals for an all-new backline.
According to The Telegraph (12 July), Newcastle are weighing up a club-record bid for Isak, 22, and have already held talks with Real Sociedad about a potential move.

The report claims the Magpies would need to spend the remainder of their summer budget in order to seal the Sweden international’s signature.
According to Transfermarkt, Newcastle’s current record arrival is Joelinton – who joined the club for £39.6million in 2019.
Whelan backed the Tyneside club to “try everything” to bring Isak to St James’ Park.
“Firepower will win you football matches, more often than not,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Newcastle have already bolstered their defence in the last year – practically signing a completely new back line.
“Now it’s time to turn attention to that front line – and yes, Isak would be a great signing.
“We want to see some of the most exciting talent in the world playing in the Premier League. Newcastle are hopefully going to try everything to bring him to the football club.
“It will excite the fans, and that’s what you want. They’ll be looking forward to the new season, because Isak is someone who can get you off the edge of your seat.”

Newcastle have already completed permanent deals for Nick Pope, Sven Botman, and Matt Targett this summer.
The Magpies start the new campaign against promoted Nottingham Forest on 6 August.
In other news, pundit claims Youri Tielemans may now sign for Newcastle United as “five-year contract” mooted.
