Newcastle United backed to land ‘superstar’ signing amid ‘big’ claim – pundit
Newcastle United will bring in a “big signing” to the squad this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said Newcastle need proven winners within their ranks if they want to challenge for trophies moving forward.
Despite being taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in 2021, the Magpies have not seen an influx of big money signings.

Eddie Howe’s side have instead opted for signings that fit in with the ethos of the club and have also focused on improving the players currently within the squad.
This summer, the Magpies welcomed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan alongside Leicester’s Harvey Barnes and Southampton’s Tino Livramento.
But McAvennie insisted the club need to go out and spend big on at least one player.
“There is going to be top quality players coming in to the side,” he told Football Insider.
“Whether they want to bring them in or not, they need big superstars. You do not win things without players like that in your team and I think they will do that.

“The attitude of these winners will change the whole dressing room. You saw it with Arsenal with [Oleksandr] Zinchenko and [Gabriel] Jesus, they walked in and all of a sudden they were a different team just because a couple of winners walked in.
“I think Newcastle need some of that. I think they will get a big name in for the fans because the Geordies will love to have a superstar.“
