Newcastle United backed to secure ‘£50m’ windfall after ‘amazing’ twist – pundit

Newcastle United are capable of qualifying for the Champions League and securing the multi-million pound bounty that brings.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ push for Europe.

Newcastle consolidated their place in the top four by beating Aston Villa 4-0 on Saturday (29 October).

After only losing one league game this season, McManus claims an unlikely return to the Champions League is possible.

“Champions League? Probably not but who knows at this point?” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Europe is Europe and we know the money that brings to the club. If you go back to the start of 2022, Newcastle are in the top five, so it isn’t just this season.

“The World Cup could come at the wrong time for them. Things change and because they have such a good squad now, a lot of players won’t be able to stay in Newcastle and work with Howe.

“Bruno, maybe Wilson, they won’t be there and we know how they big they are for Newcastle. But on Europe, it’s possible, of course it is.

“Newcastle have been amazing in 2022 and I expect the same to happen in 2023. The fans and the players are starting to believe it’s possible.

“The club can go again as well because you get that £50million or so for just reaching the groups of some of the European competitions.”

Newcastle last played in Europe during the 2012-13 season as they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The Magpies are next in action against Southampton on Sunday (6 November).
