Newcastle United backed to win race to Callum Hudson-Odoi after journalist’s update – pundit
Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Callum Hudson-Odoi to join Newcastle United if he leaves Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker said Hudson-Odoi’s move could happen “late in the window” to give him time to “make a choice”.
The 21-year-old has two years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
The winger was an unused substitute in the Blues’ 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on Sunday (21 August).
According to the Evening Standard‘s Nizaar Kinsella (17 August), new owner Todd Boehly will only allow the forward to leave on loan.
Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund, Leicester and Southampton are all said to be vying for his signature.
As quoted by the Mirror (15 August), Thomas Tuchel refused to rule out a move away from the London club but added that it depends on what the player wants.
When asked where Hudson-Odoi would choose, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “I think Hudson-Odoi would probably choose Newcastle.
“They’re really looking like they’re building something there. Leicester don’t look like they’re building anything at the moment. I feel that Newcastle would probably be able to offer a bigger package to Chelsea if it’s a loan.

“I feel like that will happen late in the window, maybe the last day of the window, when Hudson-Odoi makes a choice because he might still want to try for a move to the German league.
“But he really needs to go out and play football because he can’t be on the sidelines.“
