Newcastle United braced for ‘mega-money’ Allan Saint-Maximin bid as club’s response predicted – pundit

Newcastle United are in a position to turn down a “mega-money” bid for Allan Saint-Maximin.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Frenchman’s return.

Saint-Maximin, 25, played 40 minutes across Newcastle’s last two Premier League games after a spell on the sidelines.

Both of those games were losses and the winger was unable to add to his five goals and three assists in the Premier League this season.

Saint-Maximin has previously been linked with Chelsea, as per Calciomercato in September 2021, but McAvennie insists Newcastle can keep hold of their star man this summer.

“Saint-Maximin is such a great player,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’ve spoken about him so many times. I think it’s hurt Newcastle, him not being available.

“Don’t get me wrong. Fraser has done a great job but Saint-Maximin just has that unpredictability.

“He’s one who will be there for a while unless a mega-bid comes in for him.

“Newcastle could even turn that down because of the money they have now.

“Newcastle have lost their last two as well so they need a bit of a boost.

“Maybe they aren’t safe from relegation just yet. Him being back is a big boost, as I’ve said.

“Hopefully he can find a bit of form.”

Saint-Maximin’s last goal came against Watford on 15 January.

He started the campaign in fine form, bagging two goals and three assists in his first six league games.
