Expert reveals real reason Javier Manquillo is in Spain amid ‘serious’ Newcastle United claim
Javier Manquillo may be seeing friends and family while he recovers from a potentially “serious” injury away from Newcastle United.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Manquillo, 28, has been absent from first-team training since Magpies returned at the beginning of July.
The right-back has not travelled with the rest of the squad for their pre-season camp in Austria.
Newcastle World reported on Monday (11 July) that the Spaniard has returned to his homeland to see a specialist regarding his unspecified injury.
Dinnery explained that Manquillo’s team will remain in constant communication with the medical staff at Darsley Park.
“It’s difficult without knowing the specifics of the injury,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“This could cover a multitude of things. A large percentage of footballers, particularly those coming in from other countries, have their own trusted physios and specialists.
“Those relationships have likely been formed over several years. If that is a serious problem, it’s a great opportunity to spend some time away from the club with family and friends.
“These specialists will be in constant communication with Newcastle. They will make sure that the problems are addressed and identified.”
Manquillo scored once and laid on two assists in 21 apperances in 2021-22.
He has until 6 August before the Magpies get their 2022-23 campaign underway against Nottingham Forest.
