Newcastle United could beat Everton to ‘massive’ James Tarkowski deal after offer – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested James Tarkowski could snub a contract offer from Everton to join Newcastle United this summer.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Magpies are a more attractive proposition for the 29-year-old than the Toffees.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (23 May), Everton have offered the defender a £120,000-a-week contract to join on a free transfer.

Newcastle have also made Tarkowski a top target, with West Ham another of his suitors.

Hutton admitted competition could prove a “problem” for Everton in their bid to strike an early-summer deal.

He suggested Newcastle could be the defender’s preferred destination.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The problem for Everton is there will be other teams looking at him. That’s the big one.

“Newcastle are a team I’d rather go to, personally. I’ve got no affiliation to any of these teams or anyone so I can just sit here and be honest.

“I think what Newcastle are about to go through, for that player, will be very exciting. They’re now stable under the manager, they’re playing good football and they’re going to attract decent players.

“It’s something you’d want to be part of. A massive club in a city where they’re so passionate, they get thousands and thousands of supporters week in, week out.

“It’s something I’d want to be a part of.”
