Newcastle United could replace Allan Saint-Maximin with ‘big name’ after £50m report – pundit

Kevin Campbell suspects Newcastle United are open to selling Allan Saint-Maximin because of his injury record.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed Eddie Howe may believe he can replace the 25-year-old with a player more suited to his style of play.

According to the Daily Mail (2 April), the Magpies will listen to £50million offers for their talismanic winger in the next transfer window.

Saint-Maximin is under contract at St. James’ Park until June 2026.

Campbell suggested Newcastle will have “big-name” targets in mind to replace the Frenchman.

“I don’t think it would be a mistake if they got rid of him,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Newcastle are going to have a wish list as long as your arm. They are going to have big names that they want to bring in. They are on a different agenda.

“We know what a brilliant player Saint-Maximin is and he has been a match-winner for them but he has also struggled with injuries.

“Eddie Howe has had him for a season and maybe he has decided that he wants somebody who is more to his liking. Who knows what is going on in the background.

“If they are looking to sell him then Eddie Howe will be looking at other wingers who suits his style better.”

Newcastle

Saint-Maximin has been Newcastle’s standout player since his arrival in August 2019.

He has contributed 12 goals and 14 assists in 85 career appearances for the club.
