Newcastle United hailed for ‘clever’ transfer strategy after journalist’s Timo Werner update – pundit
Paul Robinson has applauded Newcastle United for their sensible approach in the transfer market this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Eddie Howe’s “calculated approach” is a “clever way” to approach the window.
The Magpies have signed Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett permanently so far this summer.

The club have refused to pay over what they believe to be market value for players, which led to the collapse of a deal for Hugo Ekitike.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk (26 July), Newcastle are interested in signing Chelsea forward Timo Werner.
The Germany international has three years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if a statement signing was needed at St. James’ Park, Robinson said: “They have had a sensible window.
“Eddie Howe has been calculated with his approach. He knew in January he needed players to keep them in the Premier League. They need players who will take them up the Premier League.
“Man City made marquee signings when they had their takeover and it didn’t really work. Newcastle have been more sensible in their approach.

“The players that have been brought in have to take Newcastle to that next level. They are not going to improve overnight. You cannot sign 15 world-class players overnight and balance the books.
“I can see Newcastle getting a top-half finish with the current squad. They are doing it the clever way.”
